Pastor Robert E. Slade

Robert Earl Slade was born in rural Potecasi, North Carolina to Leonard and Elizabeth Slade. Pastor Robert E. Slade received his B.S. degree in Social Science from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina and his Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from Bowie State University in Maryland.

As part of his theological preparation, he was awarded his Masters of Divinity degree from Howard University School of Divinity in May 1994. He held several positions with Prince George's County Public Schools before accepting his calling into the ministry. Those positions included classroom teacher, transportation assistant, Director of Transportation, Associate Superintendent for Supporting Services and Deputy Superintendent of Schools for Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland. Pastor Slade was ordained to the ministry in 1994 and avails himself to opportunities to preach the Good News of Salvation.
Pastor Slade at a very early age accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, but it was in his later years that he established a relationship with Jesus. Those who know him well believe that one of his greatest assets is his love and care for people from all walks of life.
Pastor Slade is blessed and sustained by a supportive and loving wife, Rhoda Ray Slade (retired) and three wonderful daughters — Brandie, Briana and Brittany and a remarkable son-in-law, Reginald Rahming. Wishing to stay close to his roots, Pastor Slade and his family reside on a small farm in rural Prince George's County. Pastor Slade attributes his successes in life to his faith in God, his wife, eight siblings, strong role models in his life and of course his parents.
Pastor Slade preaches to a Gospel centered life and places unquestioning trust in the will of the Holy Spirit. He is proud and happy to have served as the shepherd of the flock at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church located in Old Georgetown, Washington, D.C. for eleven years. Pastor Slade has also adhered to the vision God gave him to start worship service at the Mt. Zion Ministries Center located at Bells United Methodist Church in Camp Springs, Maryland. This ministry was under the umbrella of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Effective July 1, 2011, Pastor Slade was appointed pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Fort Washington, Maryland where he served for nine years before retirement on June 31, 2020.
After approximately eight months of rest and relaxation, Pastor Slade felt the yearning to continue to do God’s work in ministry and is now serving as a pastor at Genesis Covenant Church.
Pastor Slade is not interested in where a man or woman has been, rather where they are and where they are going. He has used as motto over the years, “Make Learning to Love the Joy of Life.”

His favorite scripture is Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass
through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass
through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you
walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames
will not set you ablaze.”
